ThyssenKrupp AG is a German multinational consisting of 670 companies throughout the world, and it’s one of the world’s biggest producers of steel. The company also manufacturers parts and systems for the automotive industry, for lifts, escalators and other industrial services. The Thyssen- Krupp production plant located in Campo Limpo Paulista, in São Paulo, Brazil, is one of the world’s largest factories of large moulded and forged parts for the automotive market. The plant produces engine shafts, piston rods and other parts for almost the entire Brazilian industrial demand, and also exports parts to other countries.
Production never stops: the plant is active 24/7, and the Warehouse Department must provide all the necessary parts to make sure that Production and Maintenance can reduce down time to a minimum during the production process. ThyssenKrupp’s Spare Parts Warehouse used to take up 350 m2, with traditional shelving and plastic boxes to store the parts, which resulted in long preparation times for orders and in a remarkable underuse of the space available.
With two Modula vertical warehouses, it was possible to concentrate the same amount of material in a remarkably smaller space (60 m2), optimising response times for Warehouse users and noticeably reducing picking times, thus improving inventory control.
