K+N, with more than 125 years experience, is the second largest 3PL operator in the world, with 60,000 employees and warehouse space of 3,500,000 m² worldwide. It offers integrated logistics solutions of particular quality and operational excellence, covering all market sectors from automotive to aviation, from retail to chemicals, from food to fashion. In one of its many wholly-owned sites in France, it has a warehouse of 86,000 SKU in total.
At K+N France, respecting the daily cut-off is essential, when storage, order preparation, dispatch and everything else has to be completed before 20:00, to allow couriers to deliver by 08:00 the next day. Before acquiring their Modula systems, orders were managed manually using the Batch Picking principle; operators went looking for the products which were all picked at the same time and then divided up a second time into the various orders.
Moving to Modula automatic vertical warehouses, K&N increased their productivity by 100%, with 600 orders per day.To do this, K&N installed 2 ML25D models linked to a Put to Light system which allowed them to prepare up to 40 orders simultaneously. The Batch Picking Method that they used previously was in fact ideal for small numbers of orders each containing lots of lines. However, when there are lots of smaller orders at K&N, the Put to Light system manages orders separately and has increased their performance considerably.
