Efficient and technological pharmaceutical distribution
Farmaenlace is a distribution centre for pharmaceutical products that stands out due to the efficiency and innovation of its logistics processes. With a team of 200 employees distributed across several operational areas, the company works daily from Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., ensuring flawless management of the flow of products along the entire distribution chain.
The challenge: optimise space and operability
In the past, the warehouse occupied an area of 1,700 m2, requiring considerable resources and personnel for handling. Operators moved around an area of 80 m2, a process that slowed down picking operations and increased working time.
With the aim of improving productivity and reducing the space required, Farmaenlace decided to introduce two 7-metre high Modula Lift units to optimise the storage and picking of products.
Implemented solution
Modula systems have radically transformed the warehouse:
- Capacity and organisation: the two Modula units, with 45 trays each, handle over 1087 SKUs of low-turnover products. Each tray is divided into intelligent slots, organised according to picking flow to allow quick and ordered access.
- Advanced technology: the integration of the Put to Light system, combined with laser pointer and LED bar, allows processing of up to 40 simultaneous orders per section, eliminating errors and speeding up preparation times.
- Flow efficiency: 560 movements are handled each day and 1300 order lines are processed, totalling 4000-5000 cycles per day.
Space optimisation
Thanks to Modula, the company went from a 1700 m2 warehouse to just 160 m2, saving valuable space without impacting on operational capacity. Operators now work in a compact area of just 10-16 m2, improving throughput and reducing unnecessary moving around.
Improved workflow
Today, the logistics process has two dedicated Modula operators. They deal with:
- Labelling and pricing the materials received.
- Loading materials into the Modula trays, preparing them for subsequent picking,
The innovation behind the Modula system, with trays that alternate in the bay (rather than operating as a carousel), ensures a continuous and uninterrupted workflow, significantly increasing efficiency.
Results achieved
- Reduction in occupied space: from 1700 m2 to 160 m2.
- Efficient movement: operators work within a much smaller area, reducing time spent moving around.
- Increased productivity: thousands of daily cycles managed with precision and speed.
- Minimisation of errors: thanks to advanced technology systems such as Put to Light, laser pointer and LED bar.
Conclusion
Farmaenlace is an example of how the adoption of innovative technologies can revolutionise the pharmaceutical logistics sector. Thanks to Modula, the company has optimised its warehouse, improved operational efficiency and delivered excellent service to its customers.
