The Company
For over 45 years, Galea has been a benchmark in the industrial sector, thanks to innovative technical solutions, specialized services, and continuous support for its customers. The Spanish company operates in strategic fields such as Oil & Gas, energy, maritime, and railway, providing integrated maintenance, technical assistance, and equipment rental, as well as representing leading international brands.
With more than 1,000 active customers, Galea has built a solid reputation over time based on quality, safety, and close customer relationships, supporting clients at every stage: from technical consulting and commissioning to training and after-sales support.
The Challenge
The company’s steady growth led the warehouse to reach its maximum capacity. The traditional system, based on pallet racking up to 10 meters high, required continuous use of reach trucks, resulting in long travel distances, extended access times, and increased ergonomic risks for operators.
Despite the presence of an ERP system, inventory control did not ensure the level of accuracy needed to support the growing number of SKUs and daily operations. With more than 1,450 items managed and around 100 movements per day, the need for a more efficient, safe, and scalable solution became evident.
The Solution
Galea chose to innovate its logistics by integrating four Modula Lift VLMs: two MX50 models and two MC50 models. With 171 active trays and a capacity of up to 500 kg per unit, the new configuration doubled storage capacity without expanding floor space or interrupting operations.
The VLMs, equipped with telescopic bays and automatic doors, ensure high safety standards for both operators and materials. Overhead handling systems with electric hoists allow ergonomic management of heavy loads, while consistently optimal working height improves comfort and productivity.
The integration of Modula WMS software with the company’s ERP introduced complete and automatic control of every movement, ensuring real-time traceability. Systems such as Copilot and accessories like the LED bar enable immediate item identification, minimizing the risk of errors.
The Results
Automation has radically transformed warehouse management, delivering concrete and measurable benefits. Picking operations have become up to 50% faster, while operational errors have decreased by more than 70%.
Today, around 70–80% of SKUs are managed directly through Modula VLMs, resulting in a more organized structure and greater process accuracy. Staff ergonomics and safety have also improved significantly, increasing team autonomy and satisfaction.
The transition was fast and had no impact on daily activities: each installation was completed in less than two weeks, maintaining operational continuity.
The Future
The introduction of Modula VLMs has improved Galea’s logistics efficiency, strengthening its ability to respond to market demands and steering the company toward sustainable growth. Thanks to investments in digitalization and innovation, the company looks to the future with greater confidence, flexibility, and consistently high-quality standards.
