Strategic partnership between Vanas and Modula: optimisation of vertical logistics

In the landscape of logistics and warehousing solution providers, choosing the right partner is crucial for long-term success. In this context, the partnership between Vanas and Modula emerges as a significant example of strategic synergy.

Historically, Vanas stands out for its mission to design and integrate tailor-made logistics solutions, whereas here at Modula, we bring innovation to the field of storage systems, especially to vertical lift modules. In this article, we will find out how this collaboration has made it possible to revolutionise logistics management, by offering tangible benefits to clients.

Choose Modula to raise the standard of logistics

To select a reliable partner to market its services, Vanas paid extra attention to criteria such as continuous innovation, operational reliability and software customisation. The focus of the research was very clear: to find an ally that could respond to clients’ specific needs, by offering cutting-edge solutions.

It was a natural decision to collaborate with Modula, a company acknowledged for the quality of its products and its high level of innovation. In the space of 11 years, our company has grown from a single plant in Italy to five around the world, demonstrating ambition and success and consolidating a leading position in the VLM sector.

At Modula, we pay attention to the market and its dynamics, rapidly developing new types of products, using consolidated know-how, to constantly raise the standard. Examples include Modula Climate Control and Modula Clean Room, which adapt their standard technology to specific applications. More recently, the Modula Pallet and Modula Next have also been introduced.

In this regard, Claudio Formaggio – Head of Research and Development at Modula Italia – reiterated: “Our future plans include the creation of more compact warehouses in terms of size and solutions to meet the growing demand in the e-commerce sector. Not only that, we aim to become an innovation hub by partnering with schools, research centres and universities to share our knowledge and inspire future generations”.

These factors have made and continue to make Modula an ideal option to respond to Vanas’ vision and operational needs, thus consolidating a partnership destined to bring innovation and added value to the logistics sector.

How Vanas and Modula offer next-level customer service

The collaboration between the two companies is now so deep-rooted that the maintenance and installation of certain Modula products are fundamental components of the service offered by Vanas, committed to ensuring not only the optimal functionality of the systems, but also an unparalleled client experience.

Vanas directly manages maintenance, usually scheduled annually. If a fault occurs, specialist technicians take action within four hours of the call, bringing with them the necessary spare parts to resolve any issue directly at the client site.

In terms of installation, Vanas follows a meticulous and structured approach, which is also shared by Modula. Preparations begin with training sessions months before the actual installation, when clients engage in hands-on demos using demonstration machines. This initial step is essential for future users to familiarise themselves with the new systems and for them to adequately prepare their data and define all the necessary steps, which can also include integration with software or other machinery already in use at the company.

Afterwards, an on-site training session is planned to ensure that everything is running smoothly and for the client to test the system and set it running. The service Vanas offers is exemplary in the industry for its comprehensiveness, reliability and client focus, making Modula VLMs an optimal solution for the requirements of companies in different sectors.

Modula vertical lift module applications offered by Vanas

Vanas clients that use Modula’s automated vertical storage solutions vary widely depending on their specific requirements and industry. However, we can identify three main categories of use:

  • Basic clients: They use storage solutions primarily to save space, in some cases without the integration of additional software. This kind of use is typical in companies with less complex storage requirements.
  • Maintenance warehouses: In these facilities, 24-hour access and efficient inventory management are crucial. VLMs are often integrated with software and camera systems for inventory tracking, ensuring immediate availability of spare parts and optimised storage.
  • Companies with complex logistics operations: Companies in industries such as pharmaceuticals, automotive, e-commerce, fashion, food and cosmetics rely on VLMs to increase productivity, even during order preparation. These clients leverage advanced technologies such as WMS software to maximise logistics efficiency.

Modula systems are perfectly suited to each of these applications, given the option they offer to store items in trays of up to 4 metres in width and 80 cm in depth.

Not only that, Vanas has made significant implementations when it comes to certain larger projects. One standout was for Lasaulec in the Benelux countries. This project started with the installation of 4 Modula VLMs and has grown to 32 units, with a further 24 to be added by 2025. Another success story concerns KS Tools, where 32 vertical lift modules have been installed, demonstrating Vanas’ ability to manage major projects and respond to complex logistics needs.

Towards an innovative future in logistics

The logistics and warehousing solutions industry is constantly evolving, and although Vanas has already installed more than 1,600 Modula VLMs, demand for efficient and innovative solutions remains high.

The lack of space and staff who are not always qualified mean that logistics is a critical area for many companies. Vanas and Modula have responded with automated vertical and horizontal warehouses, often integrated with roller conveyors, as effective responses to these persistent challenges.

Modula’s vertical storage solutions will continue to be a key component in warehouse automation. Their ability to optimize vertical space and adapt quickly to store products of different sizes makes them versatile and efficient tools. In addition, the already well-established integration with numerous technologies, such as automated picking using autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), reaffirms a constant focus on innovation. These technological integrations between robots and VLMs demonstrate how automated warehouses can not only be autonomous but also form part of an integrated and interconnected logistics ecosystem.

This convergence of technologies opens up new possibilities for warehouse management, making processes more efficient and further reducing the need for direct human intervention. Based on these developments, at Modula and Vanas we position ourselves not only as suppliers, but as pioneers in the evolution of warehousing and logistics solutions, driving innovation in the industry for years to come.
